Once Upon A Time...

Welcome, Students!

Do you like stories about Kancil?
Does your mom tell you bedtime stories before you go to bed?
Or do you like Cinderella, Prince Jasmine and Prince Elsa?
Did you know that those stories above are called NARRATIVE TEXT?

Narrative text is a story that is created in a constructive format that describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events. Narrative text is also called as an imaginative story to entertain people. Narrative text usually tells about fairy tales, fable or legend, for example; Kancil, Little Red Riding Hood, Gingerbread Man and Cinderella

Now, what is the generic structure of narrative text?
Narrative text consist of:
  1. Orientation: it is about the opening paragraph where the characters in the story are introduce.
  2. Complication: where the problem in the story developed.
  3. Resolution: where the problem in the story is solved.

My dear students, there are also some characteristics of narrative text which makes it special. Let's identify!

Language features of narrative text:
  1. A narrative focuses on specific participants.
  2. There are many action verbs, verbal and mental processes, for example run to the jungle, etc.
  3. Direct and indirect speeches are often used
  4. It usually uses Past Tense, for example crossed, etc.
  5. Linking words are used, related with time
  6. There are sometimes some dialog and the tense can change
  7. Descriptive language is used to create listener’s or reader’s imagination
  8. Temporal conjunctions are also used, for example by the time, finally, just, meanwhile, etc.
